Implants
Is getting a dental implant painful?
No. The surgery is done under local anaesthetic, placing one implant takes 30–60 minutes and there is no pain during the procedure. Mild discomfort for 1–2 days is managed with ordinary painkillers. Because the surgery is planned on a 3D CBCT scan (100 AZN) in advance, the intervention is minimal.
How much does a dental implant cost in Baku?
At our clinic the implant placement depends on the system: NeoBiotech (Korea) 500 AZN, MegaGen AnyRidge (Korea) 800 AZN, Straumann BLT (Switzerland) 1700 AZN. The zirconia crown on the implant is 600 AZN. If needed, bone grafting is 300 AZN and a sinus lift 500 AZN. The exact plan is given in writing after the first visit (60 AZN) and the 3D scan (100 AZN).
How long does an implant last and is there a warranty?
With proper care and check-ups once or twice a year an implant lasts for decades. We use NeoBiotech, MegaGen and Straumann systems, all with a manufacturer warranty. The clinic's own warranty terms are written into your treatment plan.
When can an implant be placed after a tooth extraction?
In suitable cases the implant is placed on the day of extraction (immediate implantation), saving a separate surgery and the waiting time. If there is infection or too little bone, we wait 2–3 months for healing. The decision is made on the 3D scan.
Is implantation possible with insufficient bone?
Yes. Bone grafting (300 AZN) or a sinus lift in the upper jaw (500 AZN) creates the base for the implant; sometimes this is done on the same day as the implant. Bone volume and quality are measured precisely on the 3D scan, after which the right method is explained.
What is All-on-4 — how are implants placed on a toothless jaw?
All-on-4 means 4 implants in the jaw with a full fixed bridge on top. A patient with no teeth, or with teeth that cannot be saved, gets fixed teeth quickly; bone grafting is usually not needed. The price is calculated from the chosen implant system and given in writing at the consultation.
How long does implant surgery take and how many stages are there?
Placing one implant takes 30–60 minutes. Then 2–4 months for the implant to integrate, after which a digital scan is taken and the zirconia implant crown (600 AZN) is made. In total 3–5 visits: consultation + 3D scan, surgery, check-up, scan, crown fitting.
Do diabetes or smoking interfere with implantation?
Controlled diabetes is not a barrier — we check your blood sugar level before surgery. Smoking slows healing and raises the risk of implant failure; we recommend not smoking for at least 1 week before and 2 weeks after surgery.
Implant or bridge — which is better?
For a single missing tooth an implant is preferable: neighbouring healthy teeth are not ground down and the bone is preserved. A bridge needs two neighbouring teeth prepared but is quicker. Cost comparison: implant (from 500 AZN) + zirconia crown (600 AZN) versus a 3-unit zirconia bridge (3 × 465 AZN). The right option is chosen at the examination.
Is implant placement painful?
The surgery is done under local anaesthesia, so you feel no pain during the procedure. Mild discomfort is possible once the anaesthesia wears off. Prescribed medication and a cold compress make this easy to manage.
When can I chew with the new tooth?
The implant needs a few months to fuse with the bone. A temporary solution can be offered during this time if needed. The final crown is made only when the bone is fully ready, which gives a longer-lasting result.
Can I have an implant if my bone is thin?
In most cases yes. The 3D CBCT scan shows the exact bone volume. If more support is needed, bone grafting (300 AZN) or a sinus lift (500 AZN) is done first, and the implant is placed afterwards.
Which implant system should I choose?
The clinic works with NeoBiotech (500 AZN), MegaGen AnyRidge (800 AZN) and Straumann BLT (1700 AZN). The choice depends on your bone, the position of the tooth and your budget. Dr. Bakhtiyar Aliyev explains the suitable option after the examination.
How do I take care of an implant?
Care is the same as for a natural tooth: brushing twice a day and cleaning between the teeth. Regular professional hygiene visits and check-ups are also important. With good care an implant serves for many years.
Orthodontics (braces & aligners)
How long does orthodontic treatment (braces/aligners) take?
Usually 12–24 months; simple cases 6–8 months. Treatment starts with an orthodontist examination (30 AZN) and a panoramic X-ray (30 AZN). With braces you come for a check every 4–6 weeks, with aligners every 6–8 weeks.
Braces or clear aligners — which should I choose?
Both work well. Metal braces (1750 AZN per jaw, self-ligating 2500 AZN) are stronger in complex cases. Clear aligners (200 AZN per step, usually 10–40 steps) are nearly invisible and removable. For children with a narrow jaw an expansion plate (400 AZN) may be an option. The decision is made after the orthodontist examination.
Are braces painful and can adults wear them?
Fitting is painless; for the first 3–5 days you feel pressure and a mild ache, then it settles. There is no age limit — with healthy teeth and gums treatment is successful at 40–50 too. Adults often choose less visible self-ligating braces or aligners.
Should I choose braces or clear aligners?
It depends on your teeth and your daily routine. Braces stay on the teeth all the time, while aligners are almost invisible but must be worn many hours a day. After the examination and the 3D plan, the orthodontist explains both options.
Is orthodontic treatment painful?
Bonding braces and fitting aligners are not painful. In the first days you may feel light pressure and some sensitivity, which is normal and usually passes within a few days. The doctor gives simple advice if needed.
Can adults straighten their teeth?
Yes. Teeth can move at any age, so orthodontic treatment works for adults too. The gums should be healthy and any decay should be treated first.
How long does treatment take?
The time is different for every patient and depends on the complexity of the case. An exact answer is given only after the examination, X-ray and digital plan. We explain this clearly at the first consultation.
Can teeth move again after the braces are removed?
To keep the result, a retainer is given at the end of treatment. It is very important to use it exactly as the doctor advises. Regular control visits also help the result last.
Aesthetic dentistry
What are veneers and who are they for?
A veneer is a thin ceramic shell bonded to the front of the tooth; it corrects colour, shape, gaps and small irregularities. At our clinic an Empress veneer is 840 AZN and the smile design is prepared personally by Dr. Bakhtiyar Aliyev. Usually 2–3 visits; the first visit with a plan is 60 AZN.
Is teeth whitening safe and how long do results last?
Professional whitening under a dentist's supervision is safe for enamel. We offer two systems: Ultradent Boost (550 AZN) and Philips Zoom 4 (1200 AZN). Results last 1–2 years depending on diet and hygiene; we recommend removing tartar and plaque first (160 AZN).
What is a Hollywood smile (smile design)?
Using facial photos and a 3D model, your future smile is designed on screen so you see the result in advance. The plan is then carried out with veneers (Empress, 840 AZN per tooth) or E-max crowns (840 AZN per tooth). The design is prepared personally by Dr. Bakhtiyar Aliyev; consultation and plan 60 AZN.
Does whitening damage the teeth?
When the procedure is done by a dentist with a properly chosen gel, the enamel stays intact. That is why your teeth and gums are checked first. If there is decay or inflammation, it is treated before whitening.
How long does the result last?
With good care and diet the result usually lasts 1–2 years. Coffee, black tea and smoking bring the colour back faster. Regular professional hygiene visits help keep the brightness longer.
Is the procedure painful?
Whitening itself is not painful; you simply relax in the chair. Some patients feel sensitivity to cold for a day or two afterwards. It passes on its own, and if needed the dentist recommends a toothpaste for sensitive teeth.
Do fillings and zirconia crowns also become whiter?
No, whitening works only on natural tooth tissue. Fillings, veneers and crowns keep their original colour. So fillings on front teeth may need to be replaced after whitening to match the new shade.
Who should not have whitening?
Professional whitening is not recommended for people under 18 or for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Untreated decay, enamel cracks and gum inflammation are treated first. Your dentist will tell you at the examination whether it suits you.
Will my tooth be heavily reduced for a veneer?
No. A ceramic veneer is very thin, so only a minimal layer of the surface is smoothed. In some cases almost no reduction is needed. The exact amount is decided in advance during digital planning.
How long do veneers last?
Ceramic is strong and keeps its colour for years. Longevity depends on your hygiene, bite and habits. We do not promise a fixed period or success rate, but regular check-ups help the result last.
Should I whiten my teeth before veneers?
Sometimes, yes. A veneer does not change its shade, so it makes sense to bring your natural teeth to the desired tone first. We offer Ultradent Boost at 550 AZN and Philips Zoom 4 at 1200 AZN. We decide together at the consultation.
How many visits does it take and what does it cost?
Usually 2–3 visits over a few weeks. An Empress veneer is 840 AZN, an E-max crown starts from 840 AZN, and the first appointment with a plan is 60 AZN. The final figure depends on the number of teeth.
General treatment
Is root canal treatment (endodontics) painful?
No — it is done under local anaesthetic and a dental microscope, so there is no pain. Endodontist Dr. Saig Gahramanov cleans the canals under magnification and disinfects them with a diode laser. Price: 85 AZN per canal, retreatment 105 AZN, canal disinfection 40 AZN; the total depends on how many canals the tooth has.
How many visits does caries treatment require?
Ordinary caries is filled in one visit of 30–60 minutes: a small filling 100 AZN, a caries filling 152 AZN, aesthetic restoration 200 AZN. We use Japanese composite, a rubber dam and caries-detector dye. If the decay has reached the nerve, root canal treatment is needed — 2–3 visits.
Why do gums bleed and how is it treated?
Most often because of tartar and gingivitis. Comprehensive professional hygiene (160 AZN) removes tartar and plaque; gingivitis treatment is 300 AZN for 2 sessions, and gum pockets are treated with a diode laser when needed. Left untreated it leads to periodontitis and loose teeth.
Is tartar removal harmful and how often is it needed?
Ultrasonic scaling and Air Flow do not wear enamel — they only remove tartar and plaque. Comprehensive hygiene (ultrasonic + Air Flow + polishing) is 160 AZN and takes 40–60 minutes. Recommended twice a year; for smokers and people with braces every 3–4 months.
Caries treatment
Is caries treatment painful?
We use local anaesthetic when it is needed, so you do not feel pain during the procedure. For small surface cavities anaesthetic is often not required at all. If you feel any discomfort, just tell the dentist and we pause.
How many teeth can be treated in one visit?
Several teeth can usually be treated in a single appointment. It depends on the size of the cavities and where the teeth are. After the examination your dentist will suggest the most comfortable schedule.
Will the filling look different from my tooth?
No. The Japanese-made composite is matched to your own tooth shade and placed in layers. The surface is polished at the end, so the filling looks natural and is not noticeable when you smile.
Do I need treatment if the cavity does not hurt?
Yes. In its early stages decay may cause no pain at all, but the tissue breaks down inside and over time it can deepen and reach the tooth’s nerve (pulp). Treated early, it is a simple filling; left longer, it may need root canal treatment or a crown.
I brush my teeth regularly — why do I still get cavities?
Tooth decay does not depend on brushing alone. It comes from a combination of factors: how often you have sugary food and drinks, whether the spaces between the teeth are cleaned (floss), the amount and composition of saliva, enamel structure and individual susceptibility. That is why even people who brush well can get decay — most often between the teeth and in the grooves of the chewing surfaces. To lower the risk: brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, cut down sugary snacks and have a check-up every 6 months.
Why can a tooth hurt after caries treatment?
After treatment of deep decay, some sensitivity to cold, heat or biting in the first days is normal — when the filling sits close to the nerve (pulp), the tissue needs time to settle. This sensitivity usually fades gradually over a few days to weeks. If the pain gets worse, wakes you at night, starts on its own or lasts more than 2 weeks, see the dentist: the filling height may need adjusting, and occasionally root canal treatment is needed.
How long does a good-quality filling last?
A good-quality composite filling lasts 5–10 years on average, and longer with proper care. The lifespan depends on the material and size of the filling, the chewing load on the tooth (shorter if you grind your teeth), daily hygiene and regular check-ups. At Smile by Dr. Bakhtiyar fillings are placed in layers under rubber-dam isolation, which improves the marginal seal and extends their life.
Should an old filling be replaced if it does not hurt or bother me?
Not always. If the filling fits the tooth well and there is no gap, darkening or decay at its edge, it does not need replacing just because it is old. Reasons to replace: a gap or crack at the margin, decay under the filling, a fracture, or a colour and shape mismatch (on front teeth). The decision is made after an examination and, when needed, an X-ray.
How can I tell if decay has formed under an old filling?
It is hard to tell at home: decay under a filling develops for a long time without pain and out of sight. Warning signs are darkening at the edge of the filling, food catching between the tooth and the filling, sensitivity to sweet and cold, and a “step” at the filling edge that your tongue can feel. A dental examination and, when needed, a bitewing X-ray (between the teeth) give the definite answer — which is why a check-up every 6 months matters.
How much does caries treatment cost in Baku?
At Smile by Dr. Bakhtiyar a small filling is 100 AZN, a caries filling starts from 152 AZN, and aesthetic restoration is 200 AZN. The first visit with a personal plan is 60 AZN. The final amount is confirmed after the examination.
Root canal treatment
Is root canal treatment painful?
The treatment is done under effective anaesthesia, so you do not feel pain during the procedure. Many patients say it feels like having a normal filling. If anything feels uncomfortable, tell the doctor and the anaesthesia can be topped up.
How many visits will I need?
For ordinary toothache (removing the nerve) we complete root canal treatment in a single visit. If there is a broken instrument in the canal, or an infection or cyst at the root tip, it takes 1–2 visits: medication is placed in the canal and healing is allowed. The doctor confirms the number after looking at your scan.
Do I need a crown after root canal treatment?
No, not always. After root canal treatment the tooth is always restored with a filling — a composite restoration costs 152 AZN and in most cases that is enough. A crown is needed only when the crown of the tooth is badly broken down; the doctor decides this at the examination.
My previously treated tooth hurts again. What now?
A repeat root canal treatment is possible in such cases. The old material is removed and the canals are cleaned and sealed again. A 3D CBCT scan helps us check the root before deciding.
How much does root canal treatment cost?
Treatment is 85 AZN per canal, retreatment 105 AZN, removal of a broken instrument 100 AZN and canal disinfection 40 AZN; the total depends on the number of canals. The first visit with a treatment plan is 60 AZN and 3D imaging is 100 AZN. Fillings start from 152 AZN and zirconia crowns from 465 AZN.
Professional hygiene
Is professional cleaning painful?
Most patients find the procedure easy — you mainly feel light vibration and cool water. If your tooth necks are very sensitive, the dentist can use local anaesthesia or a desensitising gel. Just tell your dentist about any discomfort and the settings will be softened.
How often should I have a cleaning?
Once or twice a year is enough for most people. Smokers, heavy tea or coffee drinkers, and patients with braces, implants or dentures may need it more often. Your dentist will suggest the right interval after examining your mouth.
Does cleaning damage the enamel?
Ultrasonic scaling and Air Flow remove plaque and tartar, not healthy enamel, when used correctly. At the end the teeth are polished, and a smooth surface stays clean for longer. Leaving tartar in place is far more harmful to the gums and roots.
Will my teeth look whiter afterwards?
Hygiene does not bleach teeth; it removes stains so your natural shade shows again. For many patients this already makes the smile look brighter. If you want a stronger change, we can discuss Ultradent Boost (550 AZN) or Philips Zoom 4 (1200 AZN).
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
Complex professional oral hygiene starts from 160 AZN and usually takes one visit of about an hour. If gingivitis is present, a two-session course costs 300 AZN. You can book at +994 55 501 01 07, Babek Avenue 1131, Babək Plaza, Baku.
Gum treatment
My gums bleed only when I brush. Is that serious?
Healthy gums do not bleed during brushing. Bleeding is usually the first sign of gingivitis, and at this stage treatment is simple. It is best to book an examination early.
Is gum treatment painful?
Cleaning stages are usually comfortable, and deeper cleaning is done under local anaesthesia. You can tell the dentist how you feel at any moment and the pace will be adjusted for you.
How many visits will I need?
Mild cases often need only a complete hygiene session and home care advice. Gingivitis treatment is usually done in two sessions. For deeper problems the number of visits is confirmed after the examination.
Will receded gums grow back?
Once the inflammation is under control, the gum becomes firmer and bleeding and swelling settle down. However, lost tissue does not fully return on its own, so early treatment matters.
How much does gum treatment cost?
The first visit with a personal plan is 60 AZN. Complete professional hygiene is 160 AZN and gingivitis treatment in two sessions is 300 AZN. The final amount is confirmed after the examination.
Oral surgery
Does a tooth extraction hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so you do not feel pain while it is happening — only pressure and movement. Once the anaesthesia wears off there may be mild discomfort, and your doctor will suggest a suitable painkiller.
Do wisdom teeth always have to be removed?
No, not every wisdom tooth needs to go. If it has come through straight and causes no trouble, we simply monitor it. The decision is made after an examination and a 3D scan.
When can I eat normally again after an extraction?
Avoid hot and hard food for the first few hours. Soft, lukewarm meals are usually recommended for a few days. Your doctor will give you a timeframe based on your case.
Can an implant be placed right after the extraction?
Sometimes yes, but in other cases the bone needs time to heal first. The 3D CBCT scan shows which applies to you. Dr. Bakhtiyar Aliyev will explain the best option after the examination.
How much does an extraction cost?
A tooth extraction is 65 AZN, a wisdom tooth from 110 AZN and an impacted wisdom tooth from 185 AZN. The exact price is confirmed after the examination and X-ray.
3D diagnostics
Is a 3D scan harmful?
Modern CBCT machines work with a low radiation dose, and the scan is only prescribed when it is truly needed. Tell your dentist before the scan if you are pregnant or have any doubts.
Is a normal X-ray not enough?
Sometimes it is. But for implants, wisdom teeth, sinus lift and difficult root canals, the bone thickness and the exact position of the nerve can only be seen on a 3D image.
How long does it take and does it hurt?
The scan itself takes a few seconds and the whole procedure a few minutes. There is no pain or discomfort; you simply stand still while the machine turns around your head.
How much does a 3D scan cost?
At Smile by Dr. Bakhtiyar a 3D tomography costs 100 AZN and a panoramic X-ray 30 AZN. The first visit with consultation and a personal treatment plan is 60 AZN.
Can I take the images with me?
Yes, the scan is saved as a digital file and can be given to you. Your dentist explains the findings on screen and builds your treatment plan on this image.
Prosthetics
What is the difference between a crown and a veneer?
A veneer is a thin ceramic layer on the front surface of a tooth and is mainly an aesthetic solution. A crown covers the tooth from all sides and protects a weak or cracked tooth. The dentist will tell you which one fits your case after an examination and X-ray.
A tooth is missing — bridge or implant?
A bridge requires preparing the two neighbouring teeth, while an implant leaves them untouched. If there is enough bone, a crown on an implant is considered the more stable option. We decide together after a 3D scan.
How long does a prosthetic restoration last?
It would not be honest to promise an exact number of years, because much depends on hygiene, bite and gum health. Good home care and regular check-ups clearly extend the life of the work. If you clench at night, a protective splint may be advised.
Does preparing the tooth hurt?
The treatment is done under local anaesthesia, so you do not feel pain during the procedure. Mild gum sensitivity for a few days is possible. A temporary crown protects the tooth and lets you eat comfortably.
How many visits does it take?
For crowns and veneers 2 visits are usually enough: the first for the examination, tooth preparation and digital scan, the second to check and fix the finished work. Implant-supported prosthetics take longer because the bone needs time to heal. You get the exact schedule at the first appointment.
Paediatric dentistry
At what age should a child first see a dentist?
After the first tooth appears, before age 1. Paediatric dentist Dr. Aygul Janiyeva makes the first visit a friendly introduction — the examination is 30 AZN. Then a check every 6 months, and from age 6–7 fissure sealants on the permanent molars (85 AZN per tooth).
Do baby teeth need to be treated?
Yes. A baby tooth holds the space for the permanent tooth and affects chewing and speech. At our clinic a baby tooth filling is 50–80 AZN, pulpitis treatment 60–100 AZN, extraction 35 AZN and children's hygiene 60–120 AZN. Early treatment is painless and takes one visit.
Is it worth treating a baby tooth if it will fall out anyway?
Yes, it is. Baby teeth affect chewing, speech and how permanent teeth come through. Losing a baby tooth too early can lead to a lack of space later on.
My child is afraid of the dentist. What can we do?
We make the first visit an introduction: talking without treatment, seeing the chair and the instruments. The child is told in simple words what will happen. This approach reduces fear a lot.
What is a fissure sealant and when is it done?
A fissure sealant is a protective coating placed in the natural grooves of back teeth. It is painless and the tooth is not drilled. It is usually done soon after permanent back teeth appear and costs 85 AZN.
How much does children's treatment cost?
Examination is 30 AZN, fillings for baby teeth 50–80 AZN, pulpitis of a baby tooth 60–100 AZN, and extraction 35 AZN. The exact plan and price are given after the examination.
Practical questions
Is the first consultation free and how do I book?
The first visit and consultation is 60 AZN and includes the examination, a personal treatment plan and a written explanation of prices; a panoramic X-ray (30 AZN) or 3D scan (100 AZN) is added when needed. An orthodontist examination is 30 AZN and a children's examination 30 AZN. To book, call +994 55 501 01 07, write on WhatsApp or use the appointment form on the website.
Where is the clinic in Baku and what are the working hours?
Address: Babek Avenue 1131, Babek Plaza, Baku. Hours: Monday–Friday 09:00–19:00, Saturday 09:00–15:00, Sunday closed. Phone: +994 55 501 01 07. Click the map on the website for directions.
Can I pay for treatment in instalments?
Yes. Larger plans (implants, orthodontics, veneers) are paid in stages — for example the surgery and the crown separately, or brace fitting and follow-up visits separately. We accept cash and cards. The exact schedule is agreed at the consultation (60 AZN) together with the treatment plan.
What is the advantage of digital dentistry and 3D diagnostics (CBCT)?
A 3D CBCT scan (100 AZN) shows bone, nerves and root canals with millimetre precision; a panoramic X-ray (30 AZN) gives the overview. Implants are planned on the computer in advance, impressions are taken with an intraoral scanner instead of putty, and crowns are made with CAD/CAM. The result: fewer visits, less intervention and a predictable outcome.
